
Father Endale Haile Fereja lives in our vicarage in Vienna and is writing his doctoral thesis here. Thanks to him, we are in touch with the reality of Ethiopia on a daily basis. The country is torn apart, exploited, at war and impoverished. People are suffering, starving and dying.
Father Endale is a Capuchin friar. Together with him, we thought about what we could do: The best way out of poverty is to educate young people. But that is difficult. The poor can't afford school, not even school supplies.

31 students from Hartberg Grammar School volunteer in Zanzibar
At the initiative of a dedicated religious studies teacher from Hartberg, 31 students set out for Zanzibar to make a positive impact on the local community. They were supported and accompanied by our foundation.
Religious education teacher Hannes Hamilton had previously spent several months teaching at the Machui College run by the Sisters of the Precious Blood of Christ in Zanzibar. It was a natural choice to propose a social project at this college to his students from Hartberg Grammar School (Styria, Austria).

On International Women's Day, the team from our learning centre visited a total of 1,560 girls and women. First, they went to the secondary school and handed out parcels containing school supplies and feminine hygiene products to over 700 schoolgirls. In the afternoon, they visited more than 800 women in the streets of the poor district and brought them food parcels.
In the days leading up to the event, the team prepared for the day in workshops with many other women: How do we encourage women? How can we connect the women in a network so that they can go shopping together and find a better way to earn money?

The big problem for young people from the slums of Dar es Salaam is that they cannot complete vocational training without a scholarship, because every college costs money. At least we can help some of them. Here are this year's graduates from our foundation. They have graduated from the Macui College for Hotel Management in Zanzibar. The college is run by the "Sisters of the Precious Blood of Christ". |
